You can almost feel the heat coming off that sand.
The coastline of Rottnest curves away to the right in a long golden arc, the shallow lagoon in the foreground swirling with the most extraordinary greens and aquas, the deep blue of the open ocean sitting bold and bright beyond. On the headland in the distance, the lighthouse stands small and white against the sky. And down on the beach, tiny figures, just dots really, remind you that this place belongs to everyone.
This is a painting about those summers. The ones where the days stretched out and nothing much mattered except where you'd swim next and what you'd eat for lunch. Rottnest in all its warm, unhurried glory.
